Competitions on Behance provide members an opportunity to submit their greatest work – whether it is a past project for a client or a personal project – for review by industry leading judges, talent scouts, and peers.
Whether the competition recognizes brilliant use of color, excellence in photography, or achievement in any other creative field, the competition provides an easy way to get more exposure and opportunity. Thousands of companies use the Behance Network to recruit top talent, and network competitions serve as yet another form of curation for companies to identify top talent.
Our team has been working to engage leading brands as sponsors of the competitions. We believe that well-respected companies should leverage their brand as a platform for creative talent to get more exposure. Most recently, we worked with Pantone to launch a competition for the use of color. The 1000+ entries have collectively received hundreds of thousands of additional visits as a result of the competition. The winners, selected by an incredible panel of judges, will be listed in perpetuity and will likely receive additional exposure and opportunity as a result.
We want to continue working with great brands, and in exchange we offer them the opportunity to have a sponsorship presence in the network and engage top talent. We also want brands to consider competition sponsorship as a form of a “talent audition.” After the judges make their decision, we want them to offer paid opportunities to the winners.
Why not invite competition winners to receive and respond to creative briefs, in exchange for guaranteed payment and the chance to compete with the brand’s agency?
We love the idea of matching top talent with opportunity. For future competitions, we will be inviting select brands to sponsor competitions and extend paid opportunities to the winners.
When we host these competitions, we are looking for brands that agree with the following principles:
(1) The brand wants to help shine the spotlight on great talent. By sponsoring a competition on Behance that allows creative professionals to submit their best work, the brand is helping top talent get attention and opportunity.
(2) The brand is thinking beyond the traditional model of hiring an agency or using a headhunter to find talent. Instead, the brand wants to hire creative talent based on merit rather than affiliation, representation, or location.
(3) The brand deeply respects top talent and pays for all work that is done. Amidst a world full of “spec contests” that seek free labor and incentivize careless effort, we want brands that seek only the best talent and are willing to pay for it.
We have some exciting competitions in the pipeline, and we want to refine the process over time based on feedback from Behance Network members and the participating brands.
