This Week’s Most Appreciated Projects

Appreciations are a way to send genuine kudos to another creative professional on Behance. This is our community’s way of curating the network, so that the best projects gain the most exposure. Here’s a look at two of the most appreciated projects on Behance this week:

When promoting your work online, it’s all about the presentation. Mexican design studio Manifiesto Futura brings this notion to light with their recent interior design project, documented with equally thoughtful photographs. See the full project here.

When Urban Daddy challenged Brooklyn-based art studio Red Paper Heart  to create an interactive experience in water, they responded with 65,000 ping pong balls, live animations, a synchronized swimming team and then some. See the full project and video documentation here.

From 99U // Picasso, Kepler, and the Benefits of Being an Expert Generalist

99U is Behance’s education arm, where we share tips & insights on making ideas happen. Through a web magazine, bestselling book and annual conference, we share best practices from the world’s most productive creative people.

One thing that separates the great innovators from everyone else is that they seem to know a lot about a wide variety of topics. They are expert generalists. Their wide knowledge base supports their creativity.

As it turns out, there are two personality traits that are key for expert generalists: Openness to Experience and Need for Cognition.

Openness to Experience is one of the Big Five personality characteristics identified by psychologists. The Big Five are the characteristics that reflect the biggest differences between people in the way they act. Openness to Experience is the degree to which a person is willing to consider new ideas and opportunities. Some people enjoy the prospect of doing something new and thinking about new things. Other people prefer to stick with familiar ideas and activities.

Member Collections: The Behance Team!

Collections on Behance are a great way to group together different projects under a common theme, or just collect your favorites.

Never before has it been this easy to add projects to a collection. With the new “add to collection” button after you appreciate work on Behance, you’re only one click away from curation. In honor of this amazing new feature, we’ve decided to highlight some noteworthy collections on Behance, kicking the series off with some of our own.

Meet the Team: Mell

Who are you and what do you do at Behance?
I’m Mell, a Community Manager here at Behance. The community team is responsible for listening to and communicating with our members, so I spend my days promoting amazing work created by our members on social media and blogs, answering questions on our support channels, and working with our dev and design teams to pinpoint and solve issues that arise in the community.

What are three desktop tools you can’t live without?
1.
Excel. Data is so important to evaluating and escalating problems, so Excel is my go-to for making sense of all the numbers behind our community. I don’t know what I’d do without pivot tables!
2. HipChat. I’m in constant communication with the community and development teams, and HipChat keeps me connected and cuts down a ton on redundant email and catch-up conversation.
3. ZenDesk. It’s the hub of all our support channels. I use it daily, so I’m always tweaking it to keep it organized and optimized for our team — I even went to ZenDesk boot camp last fall!

What have you worked on recently that you’re extra proud of?
I set up a categorization system for all our support tickets so we can track more precisely what types of questions we get from members. It lets us keep tabs on potential problems and advocate for changes based on community feedback. Plus, it’s generally a great archive for tracking how our community reacts to changes.

What do you listen to while working?
Motown–Stevie and Smokey are favorites–and anything fun and high energy gets me in the right groove. I also listen to a lot of NPR podcastsAlison and I are always trading recommendations. This American Life, Radiolab, Snap Judgement are the perfect background. I’ll usually listen to an episode over again on the commute home to actually pay attention to the stories.

Who is one of your favorite creatives to follow?
I love seeing new projects from Michael Doret – each one has its own story behind the process of creation. My favorite is the Behind the Knicks Logo project – it combines sketches with an interview he did, so it’s basically an oral and visual history of a New York sports icon.

Most Appreciated Projects on Behance

Appreciations are a way to send genuine kudos to another creative professional on Behance. This is our community’s way of curating the network, so that the best projects gain the most exposure. Here’s a look at two of the most appreciated projects on Behance this week:

Platige Image was tasked with creating the teaser announcements for a new video game (developed by Polish gaming company CP Projekt RED), based on Cyberpunk 2020. The project – which includes behind the scenes and making of stills, prototypes and the final teaser – is one of this week’s most appreciated. Check it out here.

French illustrator, Nico Delort, hit a homerun with his very first Behance project – a series of personal hand-drawn ink sketches. Each of Delort’s illustrations is more textured and narrative than the next. See the full project here.

Victory Lap: App UI’s, illustrating for charity, and more

Small or big, serious or silly, there are a lot of amazing success stories in the Behance community. That’s why we’ve started Victory Lap Fridays — a new series where we ask Behancers to celebrate their latest creative victory by sending us a tweet. Here are just a few of the #VictoryLap tweets we spotted last week.
